Student members of TJ2 are a truly diverse bunch. Some are attracted to building the robot, others to creating an animation or designing the webpage, and still others to showing their art talents through tie-dying uniforms or other aspects of the team. But what they all have in common is their wild team spirit and their love of a good time.
Being a member of TJ2 is tons of fun, but getting there is a huge commitment. To make the travel team, students must spend at least thirty hours attending and participating in team meetings, sometimes staying after school for seven hours. They must also raise $700 in fundraising to pay for travel expenses through activities like a sponsored bike ride along the Cape Cod Canal, a silent auction, and selling Hilliard's chocolate bars.
The commitment may be enormous, but it's so worth it. Students have the time of their lives on TJ2. Whether they're tie-dying t-shirts with dye so potent it won't fade off their hands for several days, styling garbage dumps in 3D Max, sneaking into the teachers' lounge at 8:00 p.m. to buy a Coke, or building a functioning robot from a kit of pieces, the thirty required hours pass in a heartbeat. The competitions are thrilling. Cheering the team on until many lose their voices, meeting other students from around the world, and seeing the country's major cities are amazing events that students probably would never have the chance to experience without TJ2.
TJ2s student members are an enthusiastic crew, devoted to their team and anticipating the most strenuous, passionate, satisfying 6 weeks of the year.
